Ananda Spa Resort Himalayas
Overlooking the forested foothills of the Himalaya, the Ananda is set in the 100-acre estate belonging to the Maharaja of Tehri-Garhwal. Just outside Rishikesh, this former palace has been converted into a luxury spa resort.
Seventy-five rooms, scattered through the landscaped grounds, all have private balconies overlooking the river or the palace, as well as sunken bathtubs with picture windows giving fantastic views. For the height of opulent living, the Vice-regal suite has an outdoor Jacuzzi on the terrace.
There is a choice of restaurants serving Ayurvedic and other meals, or you can take a picnic basket and go for a walk. The spa offers a host of treatments including Ayurvedic massage, meditation and yoga.
For the more active, there is a swimming pool and the hotel organises trekking, white water rafting and visits to the nearby Rajaji National Park, renowned as an elephant sanctuary. Stay here as part of a tour around the Himalayan Foothills or travel up by train from Delhi at the end of your tour to relax and be pampered.
